Current Location: Atlantic Ocean
Miles Traveled: 0 Weather: Partly sunny, windy, high 40s Highlights: Left Charleston Harbor Marina at 7AM, headed SW (145 deg), with goal of reaching Bahamas in 60 hours, averaging 7 knots. Northwest winds were stronger than predicted (30 knots), and waves much bigger than predicted (15-20 foot), so had a rough first day. Logged 217 miles in 1st 24 hours, with top speeds over 18 knots surfing down some waves. Dolphins playing right on our bow at times - must have thought it all fun and games. 1st night watch spent huddled inside with a visit every 30 minutes to the helm to check AIS and make necessary course adjustments.

Now this is what I love to read out, the voyage, speed ocean conditions etc. I'm glad you made it safe. Do you think the classes helped? Or could you have figured out what to do? If you don't mind me asking what's AIS and why'd you check so often?
