Current Location: Savannah Bay Anchorage, Virgin Gorda, BVI
Miles Traveled: 18 Weather: Mostly sunny, breezy (10-15), low-80s Highlights: Dropped the mooring ball at 8AM for a quick trip over to Sopers Hole to clear into the BVIs. Beat the crowd, but still took about an hour to complete all the forms. Paid the cashier $155 for 4 days, then we were off. First stop was a mooring ball at the The Indians, 3 big rock islands just off Norman's Island, where snorkeling is reputed to be best in the area. Grabbed one of the 10 balls after a short wait, then jumped in to see what was beneath. Lots of schools of fish, some good variety of coral (most of it still living), and some cool rock formations, so place pretty much lived up to its reputation. Spent about an hour there, then dropped the ball and headed over to The Baths, about 9 miles directly upwind. Motored the whole way in fairly calm seas under sunny skies, enjoying the views, and arriving around 2:30PM. Got the boat secured to the mooring ball, dropped the dinghy and motored over to the swim line, then had to swim the rest of the way in (no boats allowed on shore). Charter crowds had left for the day, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves, and had lots of fun making our way through the massive boulders and passages from one side to the other, then back to our starting point. Spent about an hour exploring, then swam back out to the dinghy, back to the boat, and dropped the mooring lines around 4PM. Made our way up the coast about 4 miles, dropping anchor in Savannah Bay around 5PM. Tapped the bottom in shallow water as we were searching for a good anchor spot - will need to check out the bottom tomorrow morning to make sure we didn't damage anything. Grilled steaks with cous cous, veggies, and apple sauce for dinner, then brownies or coconut bars with ice cream for dessert. No games tonight - sat around chatting and enjoying the night before turning in around 10PM after a long, fun-filled day.
