Current Location: Ocean World Marina, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Miles Traveled: 0
Weather: Mostly sunny, breezy (10-20), mid-80s
Highlights: We've been hiding out here in the Dominican Republic for over a week now, and getting a little stir crazy, but it looks like we might finally have a good (ok, adequate) 4-5 day weather window ahead of us where we can claw our way around the DR coast, cross the dreaded Mona Passage, and duck into either Boqueron or Ponce in Puerto Rico. We've filled our time here with finishing up some projects, doing some cleaning and maintenance, and getting out a bit to see some of the sights. Went up the cable car last week (fabulous views of the island), and also did a couple of shopping trips/driving tours of downtown Puerto Plata, but otherwise, we've stayed pretty close to the boat and the marina. Terry has been fighting a cold since before New Years, and also either broke or badly bruised his little toe, but he's been feeling much better today. Amy has stayed busy with organizing ship stores, wrapping up the front door screen project, fixing some fabulous meals, and playing nurse as needed. Internet has been spotty at times, and for some reason we haven't been able to make phone calls for the past few days, so we've done a lot of reading, and watched a few DVD movies that we hadn't yet had a chance to watch. Tomorrow, we'll top up the diesel tanks, clear out with customs, and then start heading east again. We'll leave late evening - the island lee effect should give us favorable winds and calmer seas during the night. Next stop will be Rio San Juan anchorage - about 8-10 hours of slow motor-sailing, then Escondido, then across and down to Ponce in Puerto Rico.
