Current Location: Lee Stocking Island, Exumas, Bahamas
Miles Traveled: 0 Weather: Sunny, breezy, high-70s Highlights: Started the day with a nice Easter breakfast of chocalate muffins and fruit, then went exploring the island. Interesting history of the island . . . a guy named John Perry bought the island in the 1950's for $70K, then over the next 30 years built up a marine research center, including labs, houses, roads, fisheries, an airstrip, and other infrastructure. Interesting read on the history of the center at https://www.cruisingworld.com/exumas-ghost-town, but long story short, Perry died in 2006, the grant money dried up, and in 2010 the remaining staff walked/sailed/flew off the island, leaving behind a ghost town with pretty much everything in place. We walked through the town, then hiked approx 5 miles around the island and up to the highest point in the Exumas for some good views and pics. Back to the boat around 3 for a well-deserved nap, then worked for an hour opening one of the coconuts we brought back with us. Delicious! Light dinner tonight of salmon loaf, rice, and creamed corn, then route planning, reading and off to bed. Oh - almost forgot - called Dad and had a nice conversation - was nice to catch up with what's happening with him and Margaret.
