EOD Location: Port Louis Marina, St. George's, Grenada
Miles Traveled: 0
Weather: Mostly sunny, breezy, mid-80s
Highlights: Woke up this morning to an unpleasant surprise. We had left our dinghy tied to the side of our boat overnight because Patrick wanted to use it to wax the outside hulls on XYZZY. Didn't lock it so he could start early without bothering us. Got up around 7:30, noticed it was missing, but figured Patrick had used it to run an errand. Patrick showed up around 8:45 without the dinghy, and we suddenly realized that it must have been stolen. Reported it to marina security and management, looked at security camera footage (no help), then Patrick and Terry took Patrick's boat around the harbor and shoreline to see if it might have washed up somewhere. Eventually discovered it at the fish market docks, about a mile from the marina. Two fishermen had found it floating offshore around 2AM, and towed it back it. Outboard motor was gone, along with a few items that we keep in the dinghy, but dinghy itself was intact, so we towed it back to our boat. Long story short, after a few calls and decisions, we decided to move on, and purchased a new 18HP 2 stroke from Budget Marine. Outboard was delivered this evening, and we no longer have to worry about the old one with all its related problems. Lesson learned - ALWAYS lock the dinghy to the boat, and whenever possible, hoist it in the davits!
